Step 1: What Kind of Ranking Is This?

When you see a Japan ranking, first note the source, category, data period, query time, and full model number. Bic Camera reflects on-site popularity, @cosme reflects reviews and reputation, kakaku.com reflects price-check search volume, and Urecon reflects actual ID-POS sales at supermarkets and drugstores — each uses a different yardstick, and none of them can be rewritten as nationwide sales figures.

A ranking without a stated period is just a snapshot; without data from a prior period, don't write that something is rising, falling, or continuously popular.

Step 2: Take the Ranking's Model Number Back to the Official Page

For headphones, verify generation, color, case style, and package; for HARIO, verify capacity, material, and variant; for drugstore items, verify capacity and version. If the model doesn't match, the ranking's popularity doesn't transfer to the item you actually want to buy.

A model getting attention doesn't mean it'll be cheaper to bring back to Taiwan; after narrowing down candidates, you still need to check the official price, availability, warranty, and returns.

Step 3: Use the Price Gap to Verify Whether It's Worth Buying

AirPods Pro 3: Japan ¥42,800 ≈ NT$8,885, Taiwan NT$7,490, Taiwan is cheaper by NT$1,395; Sony WH-1000XM6: Japan ≈ NT$12,331, Taiwan NT$12,400, Japan is cheaper by only NT$69. Being No. 1 on the ranking doesn't answer where you should pay for it.

HARIO VDR-02-T: Japan ≈ NT$137, Taiwan NT$190, Japan is cheaper by NT$53; add a ¥550 shipping fee and it comes to about NT$251, which ends up NT$61 more expensive. Every item needs shipping and tax basis factored back in before recalculating.

Step 4: Write the Recommendation and Note What's Still Unverified

The basis for a recommendation should be specific: a complete model number, specs that fit the intended use, a consistent price-verification date, and clear availability and warranty. If all you have is a popularity rank, write "worth considering as a candidate"; if all you have is an official list price, write which market's list price is lower.

This suits someone who wants to quickly build a shortlist and is willing to double-check the official page; it doesn't suit treating a ranking position as a guarantee of sound quality, durability, or landed cost.
